Vapodest 20S Rapid Steam Distillation Unit
Formaldehyde is a key constituent of chipboard and wood products.
Formaldehyde can be rapidly distilled from samples using the Gerhardt Vapodest distillation unit, prior to colourimetric or titrimetric assay.
For high levels a sample containing formaldehyde is distilled with sulphuric acid for about 10minutes. For low levels the sample is mixed with water and acidified with phosphoric acid and then slowly distilled.
After this, the determination of formaldehyde can be either titration involving potassium cyanide and silver nitrate or Colourimetric with chromo tropic acid or Colourimetric with Hehner- Fulton test involving Bromine water and sulphuric acid
