Vapodest 20S Rapid Steam Distillation Unit
Vicinal diketones (VDKs) are determined as indicators of maturation or spoilage of foods. VDKs are produced from microbial fermentation and can affect the taste of beers and cider.
The Gerhardt Vapodest steam distillation unit can be used to rapidly distil off the VDKs from a degassed sample of beer or cider.
Once distilled, the VDK content can be accurately determined spectrophotometrically after reaction with an alkaline solution of 1-Naphthol.
