Cutting Mills – Particle Size Reduction

Cutting mills reduce the particle size of a sample by using a combination of shear, impact and cutting forces. The sample is retained within the cutting chamber until it passes through the chosen sieve within the instrument. The sieves have been designed to aid the cutting and shearing and speed up the particle size reduction of the sample

A number of different cutting mills can be selected to suit the sample throughput, the starting size of the sample as well as the final fineness required. For more information on cutting mill applications - click here.

Variable Speed Rotor Mill PULVERISETTE 14

Also known as a high-speed cutting mill due to its ability to be set to a maximum speed of 20,000rpm. This cutting mill is suitable for the milling of smaller amounts of sample (5-10ml), up to 5 litres. The PULVERISETTE 14 is suitable for the preparation of materials with a final fineness of 0.08mm to 6mm. The samples are in very brief contact with the shearing blades, reducing the potential to generate heat, and therefore reduce moisture loss in the sample. Click here for more information.

Cutting Mill PULVERISETTE 15

The PULVERISETTE 15 is a low cost cutting mill with a potential throughput of up to 50 litres per hour. This cutting mill uses a four-blade rotor to cut and shear against three stationary blades to reduce the sample size. The final fineness is determined by the size of the sieve used in the cutting mill, which ranges from 0.25mm to 6mm. Click here for more information.

Universal Cutting Mill PULVERISETTE 19

This classically designed cutting mill sets the standard for sample preparation. The PULVERISETTE 19 has a potential throughput of up to 60 litres per hour. The final fineness is determined by the size of the sieve cassette used in the PULVERISETTE 19, which ranges from 0.25mm to 6mm. Using a V shaped blade rotor at 2,800rpm to cut and shear against three stationary blades to reduce the sample size. Click here for more information.

Power Cutting Mill PULVERISETTE 25

The PULVERISETTE 25 works in exactly the same way as the PULVERISETTE 19 (see above).  The PULVERISETTE 25 is a larger, slower more powerful version of the PULVERISETTE 19 and the reduced rotor speed of 300rpm enables this cutting mill to process a larger throughput of samples than the PULVERISETTE 19. The final fineness is determined by the size of the sieve cassette used in the PULVERISETTE 25, which ranges from 1mm to 10mm. Click here for more information.
