Samples can be crushed and reduced in size by using a variety of different techniques. In this section we have listed the FRITSCH sample preparation instruments, which use combinations of impact, force and shear to achieve the desired final fineness.

Fundamental to all milling is the selection of grinding material; the grinding material must be harder than the sample being prepared. A number of different materials are available for these instruments to ensure that almost all sample types can be successfully prepared.

For very fine grinding to <1µm, wet milling is required for which ball mills are most suitable. Click here for more information.

Jaw Crusher – PULVERISETTE 1

The FRITSCH PULVERISETTE 1 Jaw Crusher is ideal for the intermittent or continuous pre-crushing of hard and very hard brittle materials with a maximum particle feed size of 60mm (model I) and 95mm (model II), down to a final fineness of 1 - 15 mm. A 10-stage adjustment setting sets the gap at the bottom of the jaws to a maximum of 15mm and a minimum of 1mm. The maximum throughput is 140Kg/hour (model I) and 200Kg/hour (model II). Click here for more information.

 Disk Mill - PULVERISETTE 13

The FRITSCH PULVERISETTE 13 Laboratory Disk Mill has been designed for batch or continuous grinding of very hard and brittle materials. The maximum feed size is around 20mm edge length and the final fineness achievable can be varied from 12mm down to 0.1mm.

The PULVERISETTE 13 laboratory disk mill has a maximum throughput of up to 150Kg/hour depending upon the desired final fineness and the hardness of the material being milled. This relatively large throughput enables the disk mill to be used on a pilot plant or in small- scale production facilities. Click here for more information.

Vibratory Cup Mill - PULVERISETTE 9

The FRITSCH PULVERISETTE 9 Vibrating Cup Mill operates on the principle that the grinding set is fixed on a freely vibrating structure and the grinding media (the disc and the ring(s)) inside the grinding set are accelerated by centrifugal force. The sample material is milled by a combination of impact and friction forces, which (depending upon the material) can reduce the particle size down to 10-20µm. Click here for more information.

Mortar Grinder – PULVERISETTE 2

The FRITSCH PULVERISETTE 2 Mortar Grinder has been designed for the grinding of materials using a combination of both pressure and friction. The instrument is a small bench top unit and is the perfect solution for the prevention of repetitive strain injury (RSS) from repeated manual grinding by hand.

The PULVERISETTE 2 mortar grinder is suitable for the preparation of soft to medium-hard materials down to a final fineness of 10-20µm. Sample volumes of 30-150ml may be prepared at a time. The automated mortar grinder can be used for loss free grinding in suspension and cryogenic preparations. Click here for more information.

Cross Beater Mill - PULVERISETTE 16

A versatile mill with high throughput of up to 80 litres per hour designed for the crushing of soft to medium hard materials. Three beaters spin and grind the materials against a toothed wall. Crushed material falls through a bottom sieve, which can be as small as 0.12mm.

Mounted on either an optional stand or on the bench with a standard 5- litre collection vessel. Click here for more information.
