PULVERISETTE 23

Ball mills reduce the particle size of sample material by using a combination of impact force and friction energy. This energy is created by the grinding balls, which break down the sample, to achieve the final fineness. FRITSCH offers a number of different ball mills depending upon the application under consideration. For more information on ball mill applications - click here.

Fundamental to all ball milling is the selection of grinding material; the grinding material must be harder than the sample being prepared. Up to seven different materials are available to ensure that almost all sample types can be successfully prepared. For more information on grinding media - click here.

For very fine sample preparation, to a final fineness of <20μm wet milling will have to be used. All Fritsch ball mills are suitable for this type of application. As well as particle size reduction, ball mills may be used for the homogenisation of pastes and emulsions.

Through the continuous measurement of gas pressure and temperature, it is even possible to investigate mechanical alloying and the production of new materials using the Fritsch ball mills.

Planetary Mills - PULVERISETTE 5, 6 and 7 classic line

These ball mills can be used for the preparation of a wide variety of materials using both dry and wet milling. The unique planetary action greatly increases the impact energies achieved in other ball mills. Therefore samples are ground more quickly to the desired final fineness. Several options are available depending upon the sample size and the required number of milling stations to suit your laboratory needs.

PULVERISETTE 5: 2 or 4 position system for sample volume from 10ml to 4 x 225ml. Click here for more information.

PULVERISETTE 6: Single position system for sample volume from 10ml to 225ml. Click here for more information.

PULVERISETTE 7: 2 position system for sample volume from 0.5ml to 2 x 20ml.  Click here for more information.

Planetary Micro Mill - PULVERISETTE 7 premium line

The latest in ball mill design is the PULVERISETTE 7 premium line ball mill. An increase in the impact energy, from the classic line ball mills has been achieved by patented engineering, which operates at speeds of up to 1100rpm.

The two grinding bowls, which can handle sample volumes between 0.5ml and 70ml, have been sunk into the rotating disc, therefore allowing greater speeds of rotation, which hugely increases the impact energy. The PULVERISETTE 7 premium line ball mill, reaches centrifugal accelerations of up to 95 times the force of gravity. This further increases the speed of sample preparation and the final fineness, making ball milling down to the nano-range now possible. Click here for more information.

Mini Mill – PULVERISETTE 23

The FRITSCH P23 micro mill has been specifically designed for the milling of small quantities of material (<5ml). The oscillation of the grinding bowl (at a high amplitude and frequency) produces particle size reduction in the grinding bowl though a combination of both impact and friction forces on the sample material. As a result, it is possible to achieve both rapid and reproducible grinding of the sample material. Click here for more information.

Vibratory Micro Mill – PULVERISETTE 0

The PULVERISETTE 0 vibratory micro mill has been specifically designed for the milling and homogenisation of small volumes of material, typically 0.1-10g. The ball mill achieves the size reduction, through a combination of impact force and friction.

An electromagnetically powered mortar generates vibrations, which are transferred to the grinding ball, via the sample material. The impact energy of the grinding ball is controlled by adjusting the amplitude frequency of the base of the instrument, which is also used as the sieve shaker base. Click here for more information.

Planetary Mills – PULVERISETTE 4 classic line

The PULVERISETTE 4 is a large freestanding unit specifically designed for the production of new materials through mechanical alloying in materials research. Unlike traditional planetary ball mills, the PULVERISETTE 4 vario-planetary ball mill can be used to configure the rotational speed of the grinding bowls and the rotating disc separately. This is achieved by modification of the gear ratio, which makes mechanical alloying and mechanical activation possible. Click here for more information.
